I have taken it upon myself to edit a collection of several thousand
industrial archeological photos. These have
been digitally scanned into a database. Each has a unique ID number but many
of the photos are duplicates
and near duplicates. Does anyone know of a software package that will let me
identify photos that are similar.
Simply making a visual inspection will take far too long.

Here are some of the problems. A simple bit comparison will not do. The
photos differ in file size, some by a ratio
as large as 8 to 1. The pictures are in JPG format. Most are in color but a
substantial portion is in B&W.

I use Mac equipment and have G3 and G4 Powerbooks and a new MacIntel. I can
run any operating system
from OS 7.6.1 through OS 10.4.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
