AFAIR, the release of "several" lenses was announced (or at least rumoured). With a crop factor of x1.33, it is quite easy to imagine which "new" focal lengths could be expected. left: trad. focal lengths right: corresp. new focal length for "digital" M lenses 50 -> 37.5 35 -> 26.25 28 -> 21 24 -> 18 21 -> 15.75 Lets go through: - A 37.5mm lens is not very likely. But a new, fast 40mm? - to counter Voigtlander's 1.4/40 Nokton? Would be a more and more popular focal length for film, and a 53mm for digital. - A new 26.25mm does not make sense, so the "traditional" 28/2 ASPH Summicron could be the new "standard 35 digital prime" (a 37.3mm in fact). - New 15mm (instead of 15.75), 18mm and 21mm lenses seem most likely to me. I could expect two of the last group and the 40mm. All ASPH, all fast. And all expensive... <backbite mode> Another possibility is, that Leica makes a 37.5mm but calls it "40" and a 26.25mm and calls it "28" - like some older 50 Summicrons that had 52mm effectively... </backbite mode> Didier >Specifically, the rumors have been swirling about an 18mm. If true, an >18mm that would work on film and digital might be worth the small fortune >it will cost. >Don
