LUG:

If anybody is in the neighborhood (East of 
Charlotte, NC), you're welcome to drop in.  This 
is a LUG-related talk because Ken Lassiter met me 
on the LUG and wrote an article about my work for 
Photographer's Forum magazine.  Lex Youngman, 
photography professor at Wingate University, read 
the article and asked me to come and speak at 
Wingate about using photography to make a 
difference.  You never know where your LUG connections will take you!

Tina Manley to present slide lecture at Wingate
Wingate, N.C. ? Wingate University is proud to 
bring award-winning photographer Tina Manley of 
Rock Hill, S.C., to campus March 29 for a slide 
lecture of her photography from around the world. 
The lecture, titled ?Making a Difference,?  is 
part of the University?s Women?s History Month observance.
             The slide show and lecture will take 
place at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the 
George A. Batte, Jr. Fine Arts Center.  The event 
is free and open to the public.  For more

Manley has traveled to over 40 countries in her 
18-year career.  To capture the local culture, 
she lives with a family for three weeks and 
photographs their daily lives. Her photography 
reveals the similar human sides of people from 
all over the world. Manley develops her 
photography into slide shows, brochures and 
posters to raise funds for self-development 
programs in the communities she is photographing.
             In 1988 Manley earned a B.A. in 
English and Art from Winthrop University.  She 
was named Featured Photographer of the Year from 
UNICEF in 1995-96, first place B&W traveling 
exhibit in 1998 and the Southern Visions traveling show award in 1999.
Founded in 1896, Wingate University is a private 
four-year co-educational institution offering 
students active learning opportunities through 
personalized instruction, world travel, faith 
development, career discovery and community 
service. Wingate offers more than 37 
undergraduate majors in arts and sciences, 
business, education, fine arts, music and sport 
sciences. It also offers pre-professional 
programs, graduate degrees in business, education 
and the doctor of pharmacy degree. In addition to 
academics, Wingate student-athletes compete in 17 NCAA Division II sports.
