I found ~100K a good compromise between image quality and general download time. Higher than that and it becomes more a chore for people (I am on SDSL ~387K bytes/s). Second, picture wise, they are all kind of nice but something is lacking. They all have a main subject in some surrounding but I can't really connect the subjects to the backgrounds. I am not sure whether it is a case of getting closer or somehow relate the background more.
