Sure, but the text you refer says: "JPEG is intended for compressing images 
that will be looked at by humans." And of course "it's important to minimize 
the number of generations of JPEG compression between initial and final 
versions" - but how many generations you need? And of course it is a good 
idea to retain the original intact.
