Because the % of additional sales is essentially nil.  You get the patents,
which is what you want, and you kill off the miscellaneous sales of their
product line.  you also get the name to use on your items.... maybe that has
value, maybe not.

If you own one of the major ball-players in a market, then the
addition of one of the others to your product stake can only give you
a bigger market share. So why would you want to kill it? You'd
keeping it going as competition ................. and reap the
rewards from both parties!
