The 40mm Summicron, my favorite lens as of late has a .75 not the normal .50 screw pitch. So all you can get for it is an adaptor ring thing that you can epoxy or weld onto a lens hood thing. I just use the adaptor screw and call it a lens shade. Heck it sticks out a full 4 mils! Really does product the lens a bit I feel like in a bag or going through a doorway. That's a good part of a reason for using a shade. My pix have plenty of contrast and no notable flare or ghosting of any kind. Normally I'm big on shades. But the 40mm Summicron like the 35 pre ASPH Summicron is such a compact lens, and like some pancake style 45's and 50's that it seem a shame to kind of go against its purpose and double or triple it's size with a lens shade. All I knew is though that my 40mm Summicron does ok without one. As does my 45 GN and P Nikor Pancakes. Mark Rabiner Photography Portland Oregon http://rabinergroup.com/
