Peter, et.al. - 

If I may chime in on this - call your home owners insurance company, your
car insurance company, and your employers' insurance company, and find out
how you make sure you have insurance on any claims for loss due to breaking
and entering or other nasty acts.  

Then find out how you can install something in the car by way of a lock box
or other secure storage.  Why would you ever want to settle for using a POS
camera after buying a Leica escapes me.  Make reasonable efforts to secure
it, and to replace it, then get on with making pictures, not worrying about
the bad guys doing bad things . . 
 

If the camera isn't good enough to use all the time, it's not good enough to
use . . . .
