Your photos and lost time are much more valuable than a few thousand $. How much time will it cost to recreate the 200 GB photo repository? Can you afford to do it again. At this point in time, it really sounds like to me that you have a lemon PC. Regardless how much Dell claimed to test (or not) it before it leaves the factory or the Geeksquad's poking around, I would be very surprised if they did that much burning in for a non-server component. Transient H/W or S/W errors are the worst nightmare for everyone involved. I won't share with you the horror stories about chasing transient bugs in S/W. Buy another machine and start moving the data off the existing PC. You choice of Windows or Mac of course. I find Mac's are more reliable because Apple designed the H/W and the S/W together, not necessarily because the components in a Mac are of better quality than that what goes into a high end PC. The probability of so many drives failing randomly together while in your possession is pretty remote. The likelihood of you getting hit by lightening is higher. My $0.02 worth.
