Subject: [Leica] Vaseline & Leica, a good combination?

What happened to nose grease as the LUG approved lens mount lubricant?
Wasn't it Ted that first advocated its use?

Subject: [Leica] Vaseline & Leica, a good combination?

Andrew Nemeth writes:

"Occasionally a tiny smear of Vaseline on the detent
knobs at the rear of the lens barrel cylinder will
help keep the mechanism smooth and reliable for
hundreds of clicks."

My question is does anyone do this periodically, and
how does one know when one should bring out the
vaseline? I've also heard a reference to vaseline in
the a Leica M book that came out recently. In the book
the author was making a reference to using vaseline on
the lens mount. I wonder if regular house hold
vaseline is adequate?

Thanks for your comments.
