Ah!   Are you referring to Tri-X film?  And perhaps the dye that Kodak puts
in the base to prevent halation?

If so, indeed it is a problem to get rid of but can be eliminated by the use
of fresh wash aid containing over 20gm sulfite per liter. Use for at least 3
min and the dye mostly washes out.

But it looks blue/purple to me, not orange....
