Subject: [Leica] Odd lens signature quest - Rollei AFM35

Oh Wise Forum Folks,

I have a Rollei AFM35 P&S. I've been going through my color prints over
the last
year or more and find that this little camera has quite frequently
delivered great
color shots with a very unique look.

I've noted the 38mm lens's unique (to me) signature. After some online
research,
the lens seems to be a "new German design" (not derived, I guess, from
from the
Rollei 35 lens, etc.) and possible manufacture with Rollei's HFT
coatings (the
body is definitely a rebadged Fuji Classe).

In any case, while no expert, I find that the lens delivers very, very
contrasty
shots, both macro and micro contrast, with great apparent sharpness
(possibly due
to the high contrast). Again, I'm no expert, but one online thread
notes the lens's
formidable MTF. The color rendition is super saturated, with deep reds,
reminding
me somewhat of some of Helmut Newton's photographs (just by way of example).

It's a unique thing. In online forums, some folks love it, while others
hate it.

Lately, I've been thinking of "branching out" with my M's to color
negative and
particularly slide shooting (so far, just B&W work). So I'm wondering if
there's an
M mount lens with a similar signature. If possible, I'd prefer a 50mm
to a 38 or
40mm lens.

Any information on this lens's heritage and signature would be greatly
appreciated,
and especially a pointer to an M mount near equivalent. Might the new
Zeiss Planar
deliver similar results?

Odd information request request, I'm sure, so a big thanks.

Scott
