It will have less use for high speed films as they respond to gamma rays to a greater extent than say a 100 ISO film. An old rule of thumb from biology and organic chemistry is that reactions increase/decrease 100%/50% for each 10 degrees C change. If we assume 20 degrees C as normal then keeping film at 0 will quadruple the life of the film give or take. Probably true rumors are that NASA kept film stocks in liquid nitrogen once an emulsion was thoroughly vetted so that you could buy a whole run, know exactly how it would react, and keep it for a long time.
