Hi Robert -

I live in the US - Northern California to be specific.  I suspect that some
of the schools (this incident was at our local high school) have gotten very
sensitive to copyright issues in the last few years due to the pressures
against them for allowing downloads of music (i.e. Napster) over their
networks.  Hence, I wasn't going to get into an argument with them about the
letter of the copyright law; but rather that they were enforcing where no
rights were actually asserted.

In contrast to this situation, I have been to many professional baseball
(MLB) and football (NFL) events in stadiums in the US where the leagues hold
the copyrights on the game "performance".  In those cases, they assert their
rights more reasonably - i.e. not for commercial use, and you can shoot
photos as you desire for personal use.
