The first because the texture of the snowy trees in the middle ground contrasted to the brilliant white of the snowy mountains behind; the second for its simplicity and the light. I guess the only comment I would make is that the white mass in the lower right of the second is bothersome, but I don't see any way to crop it out, and maybe a few more photons on the film would have been helpful?
