I find that today's colour films are saturated enough already. In fact, in this hyper-colour world of ours, I find most films are over-saturated for my tastes. For many years I happily used Kodachrome 64. Now that I cannot get timely, reliable K processing, and that I gradually have started shooting mostly in low-light, I have switched to Provia 400F. It is not a neutral film but it is better than most. Skies are fine without a polarizing filter. This gives you the added benefit of not having considerable sky tone variance; especially with super-wides. Everyone's tastes vary. One local photographer shot with Velvia and then duped with Velvia again in order to get the colours he wanted. Frankly I couldn't look at his work with wearing dark glasses; very dark glasses! I suppose he has switched to digital now and just rams all the sliders he can find to max. John Collier
