Subject: [Leica] Adhesives in a Leica lens??

Questions;
Is Leica's ability to lighten and scale down the size of their lenses 
come from the use of adhesives?
Does any one know when this became a wide spread practice?
Myself, I'm guessing after the late 70's as the family was losing 
control of the company.
