But that's to be expected. :-) Ms are at their best without them of course. BUT, they also work perfectly well with the right kind of flash and folk who are new to the M system and used to flashes ought not be discouraged. Here's some of the ways I use the SF20 flash with Ms, with complete success. - in near darkness at dance parties. Pre focus with a 50 or 35 and fire away, using TTL or Auto as appropriate to the body. - in full sunlight for portraits taken against the light, with 100 speed film. 1/50th and f11 to f16 gives a properly exposed background and a flash range of a few meters. Flash cut to -1 and 2/3rds. Beautiful. - in dappled shade, to fill in shadows a little. Flash cut to -3 - inside, with reasonable ambient light. I use the flash to add a little sharpness to people moving, such as kids dancing or running around. - inside with low ambient light. A slow shutter speed will provide a blurry ambient look with a sharper reduced flash image superimposed. The nice thing about starting out with an older M6, a 35/2 or a 50/2 and an SF20 is that if it doesn't suit, there's little lost on resale, if anything. Rick.
