He adds that starting with Series No. 2,947,024 the lens also takes the E60 filter. He notes that the lens starts from approximately Serial No. 2,735,000 and since yours is Serial No. 2,749,291 you have an early model and, there, take a Series 7.5 filter with the adapter mentioned above. A footnote says that it was initially produced with two cams for use with the leicaflex sl and sl2 and, beginning with Serial No. 2,749,556 with three cams for use also with the R series cameras. He adds that it was designed for military use, with a new type of optical glass called flourite with "low dispersion properties" that "offered excellent details and brilliancy never before achieved with this focal length." It sounds to me if this lens was ordered by the military for use in aerial spy photography. Regards, bob cole
