Do any current printers print if one of the ink cartridges is empty?

I'm ready never to buy Epson again.  I just wanted to print out a simple
Word doc.  In black.  I have plenty of black ink.  But I ran out of magenta.
So I can't get *anything* out of my printer until I buy another magenta
cartridge.  Grrr.
