First of all, for those who don't want to tweak forever but to use the KISS principle, like Uncle Ted - have someone scans the film, grab it off the CD, click Print and viola! If your negative is good, your print is good. Even B&W prints can be have now with no work, if you use the HP printers. For me, I spent couple years gotten the Color Management workflow working, and now? I scan in the slide, bring it in Photoshop, usually do no more than a minute's worth minor color adjustment, USM and print. If the slide is good, the print is good. With the Epson R-D1, same thing. I look at the RAW files and find a good candidate. Bring it into Photoshop, do no more than a minute's worth of minor color adjustment, USM and print. If the capture is good, then the print is good. Rarely do I screw around photoshopping. The #$@@Q! Epson printer clogs more than I'd like, but it's usually just a matter of wasting ink to clean the clog.
