I think the trick I have learned from Doug, is that certain lenses are used
wide open, no stopping down.  I think that is what I am focisung on, the
ease of use of even preset lenses, if you use them at their largest
aperture.

I agree completely with your assesment of preset lenses... I remember trying
to shoot a high school football game with a preset lens.  It was a mess!

 I am getting used to remembering to stop down after focusing.
Focusing at the wider apertures is no problem, but is very difficult if
stopped down to f/16.
