I strongly recommend wearing no more than two items of
handwear per hand when working outdoors with your
photo gear -- otherwise you end up fumbling around
with your various mittens and gloves instead of taking
pictures!

So look for a thin pair of gloves that you are sure
allow you to manipulate the camera controls. Your
hands are likely to get a little cold in these but you
will still be able to wind, focus and release the
shutter.

Then a big cozy pair of mittens over them when not
shooting. I like either downfilled or fur mittens. I
avoid anything with Velcro.

You need to have somewhere to stash those mittens when
you are shooting -- either big coat pockets or a
string around my neck work for me.

I think half-fingered gloves are a great punk fashion
statement but a lousy way to keep warm. Your
fingertips are what you need to protect, not your
@#$%& palms!

Kodachrome is far more resistant to cracking than any
E6 film I have tried.
