Linus was in Finland, and Andy teaches in Holland. Andy wrote a book on operating systems, and wrote Minix (Minature Unix) as a teaching tool. It was really pretty neat. He and Linus got into a rather heated discussion on the Minix newsgroup, which ended with Linus saying he was going to go write his own OS to overcome the shortcomings of the teaching OS. He did, and the resulting history is scaring the crap out of one Bill Gates. BTW-early versions of Linux used the Minix file system. And to be fair, Linux would not be where it is today without all of the great GNU programs from the Free software Foundation. -- ================================================ Ken Firestone, W3CAT Kerry-Courage under fire. kenf01@gmail.com Bush-Driving under the influence. kenf@speakeasy.net ================================================
