Somewhere I have pictures of them taken at RAF Bentwaters 19 years ago. I specifically remember "The City of Lincoln" bomber. One afternoon at our gun club in Wickham Market - the gun club is gone now, I suppose - I was talking to an old WW2 British Army vet who had served part of his tour ar RAF Martlesham Heath. Our clubhouse was the RAF Scramble Shack from that base and used in the Battle of Britain. A new concrete floor was poured and the Nissan Hut moved from Martlesham Heath to Wickham Market. Anyway, we suddenly heard the sound of a piston engine aircraft and my friend's head jerked up and he said "Cor', Mate..... that sounds like a Spitfire!" We rushed outside and it was indeed a Spit passing over. Walker Smith
