I was in TV, and we had a similar guy living over in Dallas, Gordon Yoder, who converted the Auricon film camera into something usable for news. It was the fore-runner of the Cinema Products CP16, (a wonderful camera) that was a little too late in coming to market, as Ikegami soon produced the Video Handy Lookie (HL33) http://www.pharis-video.com/hl-33.jpg and we all traded in our 9 pound cameras for video rigs that weighed 60 pounds.
