What would you expect to see? Wires and electronic components hanging around? The sensor that you see is buried beneath glass. Under the glass is a low pass filter and possibly a ray bending prism glass so that you may use a leica 15mm lens and get a reasonable image out to the edge. The glass sensor cover will need a lot of cleaning and dust removal as digital sensors build up static and attract dust. One will want to mount the digital back in a clean environment. Likewise, changing lenses can lead to a dust problem since the dust gets in the mirror box and when the shutter is fires, it can migrate to the sensor surface. This has been the bane of digital interchangeable lens SLRs since their inception. As in Nikon, Canon, Kodak, and now Leica, SLRs, the glass sensor surface is very robust as it must withstand a LOT of cleaning. JB
