I haven't used him much but was always pleased with his work. Not so Sherry--she never "butchered" anything, to be sure, but I was always unhappy with the wide tolerances in shutter speeds (I'm a camera repairman's worst nightmare: a customer with a high-end digital shutter tester) and did not appreciate the black tar she put around where the top plate laps the body casting, or her unesthetic vulcanite patches. But she always returned my gear without any damage, not even to screw heads. Personally I prefer Don, but I have one M that was overhauled by Gerry Smith at Kindermann and it was nearly as good a job as Don's. Back to Reinhold, I remember reading somewhere on the 'net not long ago that somebody wanted some Leica part and said that Reinhold was going to Germany soon and could pick it up...perhaps that's what the deal is. The worst - the camera came back from service prior to a mjaor trip with an additional "gouge" on the front plate where the red dot had obviously been levered off - it' sill there - (it had not been replaced with a new one but had been gouged as well). Half way through the owrk trip this M6 completeley seized up and was unusable fro the rest of the six weeks I was away. On sending to Sherry Krauter she wondered who had buthchered the insides? (apparently she had only ever seen this problem with a few others before) and she very clearly put it down to whoever had worked on the camera before (which had been the only prior work on the camera). It took another $250.00 to fix. So I woukdn't be suprised if he is out of business. tim
