That's the problem with monitors. I recently installed a dual monitor set-up. One is LCD, the other CRT. Both Samsung (997DF and 172T). I have tried to calibrate them both (you can only run one profile at a time under Windows XP, but you can derive the calibration from either.) My flat panel produces great blacks and whites, with snappy contrast. The CRT produces more washed out images -- but with better tonal separation in the deep blacks and bright whites. Either looks fine when not directly compared to the other. Overall, I prefer the LCD, despite the lack of separation of extreme tones. When editing, I sometimes drag an image from one to the other to see the difference. This image looks great on my LCD, and a tad flat on the CRT. -- Clive http://www.clive.moss.net
