Here's my experience: Canon A70 -- pros: full-featured, fairly small, good image quality and build quality. cons: slow lens (f/2.8-4.8), slow default ISO (50). Panasonic Lumix LC-40 -- pros: Leica optics (same as Digilux 1, but 4mp instead of 5). Fast lens (f/2-2.5), less barrel distortion than most in the class. Good ergonomics, easy to hand hold at low speeds. Excellent image quality at ISO 100. Cons: not many features, poor video quality, noisy at higher ISOs, build quality seems slight but nothing has ever gone wrong yet. This is my most used digicam because of ergonomics and image quality. Everyone is impressed by the images. Recently shot a runway fashion show with it and the client was wowed. Pd $299 for it at Ritz. I've also heard good things about the Panasonic image-stabilized zoom models, which are now pretty cheap as well.
