In another life I was an Internal Auditor for a major California Bank. I was
auditing the personnel files of one of their EDP divisions to assure that
resumes and employment histories were verified and signed off. The scope of
the audit included programmers, systems analysts, software specialists...all
highly educated people. I observed variant spellings for Oakland (Okelend,
Oakeland) a couple of alternate spellings for Berkeley (Burkly, Birkily).
Several of the resumes were so poorly written It was questionable if English
was their primary language (it was) A few were not even 8th grade level. I
mentioned my findings to my supervisor who sighed..."We don't hire em to
write good English just good programming"
