I can't speak for other companies, but I know reporters at USA TODAY are in
the process of switching over to doing double duty with small digicams, as
are other papers within the Gannett empire (at least they were before I
left).

I have definitely noticed that. As an example, when I recently went down to
the Reagan funeral to take some shots, I noticed several reporters with
digital point-shoots and wondered if their publication was having them do
double duty.
