On handling and ease of focus, the Leica R8 with motor and 180/2 were by far the best. While I know Greg has the 180/2 already, so other brands are mostly out (except for Canon with an adapter), I have a hard time imaging that big 180 balanced on a motorless SL or SL-2. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that, Doug. Given that the old SL & SL2 motors are slightly iffy propositions at this point in history. I'd suggest that Greg give the motorized R8 a second look. Perhaps an R6.2 or R7 with motor too, although they won't be as pleasant to view and focus through as the R8. The SL is a wonderful machine -- in many ways Leica's best SLR -- but the lack of a modern motor makes it a tough choice for very big and bulky glass, I think.
