Thank you, Jon!  I'd been trying to remember the name of the book my friend 
had in the 80's.  I remember it being hilarious and scary all at once, with 
quotes from RR followed by the true info (often just the retractions from 
his press office).  He really had a knack for making up "facts" out of thin 
air and sounding so believable when he said them that it didn't even really 
seem to matter when they were pointed out to be completely false.

Politician or statesman?  More of a magician, if you ask me.
