There isn't one on my Summicron and I do not miss it there. The same with my longer lenses and the Noctilux. Perhaps because the 35/1.4A and the 50/1.4 are similar in diameter my mind screamed it feels funny. On a more contemplative level there are some advantages to a tab on a relatively short throw lens. It provides a physical reference point to where the lens is focused. With a tabbed lens I find I have already set the focus fairly closely as the camera moved to my eye. Just a minor tweak if I am shooting wide open and then release the shutter. The tab is also a great aid to comfortably using a Rapidwinder in a quickly changing situation. It all comes down to personal preference. I like my short focus throw lenses to have tabs.
