He asked a question that need not to have been asked in the first place for someone going there for the first time! Simple common sense would dictate given he'd never been there before, take every damn lens he owned .. just in case! That's the chillingest answer to the question Hell he didn't say what his equipment was, what he liked to shoot, was it colour-B&W? water scenes, jungles or people... day or night! In any case he should've known to take every lens he owned to save his ass no matter what the subject,,,,, just in case you might find something unexpected. There's nothing more frustrating than to go on a shoot and when you return with what could've been a very successful assignment providing you had your correct lens and then have to make weak excuses why it isn't the best of the best by not taking everything. Sure avoids excuses for a half assed job. Look what's the point of going some place for the first time and not be prepared for every possible photo opportunity with the right lenses to avoid the excuse of ........ "Oh man this would've been so much better if I'd taken my 100 macro or whatever lens." And quite frankly that's a bull shit excuse and absolutely unnecessary if you take all your gear........... particularly lenses! Now if he intended to lie on the beach most of the time and do the near nekkked bikini gals hell one good zoom and a digi would answer that quickly. ;-) But see he didn't say diddily what he preferred to photograph. Some of us lug damn near everything we own on our shoots, simply on the basis of, you never know "exactly what you'll see that requires a 15 or 400!" And having shot in Hawaii several times on assignment I answered a question that need never to have been asked in the first place! He asked "what lenses to take to Honolulu" He didn't say anything about being an amateur or pro. he asked an open ended question and I gave him an open answer! It's like, "ask and you shall receive!" He also didn't say anything about his reason for going there, work or play. Higa said: "hell that's no big deal." Well it may not be a big deal for you, but some of us don't approach a shoot to a "never been there before location" with a chill out attitude, unless it's prime reason for going is getting a tan and playing in the water. Even then you might be surprised at the amount of gear that goes simply because........... "you never know what might happen, so be simply prepared!" > Forget about serious shooting! Just relax on the beach with a couple of > books to read... Now the question is what books :-)<<<<<<<, No it isn't, books bedamned! As the question is "Why forget about serious shooting?" Certainly when he's never said why he was going there... "beach play or a serious shoot." And that's the question to be answered first! ted
