Interestingly though you can buy such recordings on CD, from wax cylinders -
I guess over time they were reformatted....

then again, if you happened to store the negs of your wedding photographs in
a shoe box (lots of nice stuff in that cardboard) on the shelf over the
radiator in your damp basement I doubt you will be able to print those
either.

I've spent countless hours working on many many prints and negatives from
100 years ago (indeed 50 years ago) that are in very poor condition now.
