In fact I tried to adjust the vertical alignment last night. ^_^ I removed the tiny screw above the lens mount from the top plate last night and didn't see another screw below. I saw another tiny hole below that moved slightly from left to right when I threw the lens' focus from one extreme to the other. It was hard to make out anything behind the hold, but it looked like some tiny threads or something of that sort. I figured this was the newer style that required the special tool.
