As long as I keep the SS4000 clean the trouble I have with it is software-related. Lately Silverfast has been asking me for the serial number for EACH scan (big PITA) but when it's working right the scans are better than if I use Vuescan. OTOH, Vuescan is much more stable, hardly ever requiring a re-start.
