I find lots of people have no issue with gay people as long as they don't exhibit any openly gay contact as that makes people sqeamish. Art is all about creating a reaction. whether that be revulsion (the carved up animals in formaldehyde (sp?)) or fear (some of James Nachtwey work comes to mind) or happiness. I think he succedded in creating art, because of everyones reactions. There is something powerful about it to cause this much passionate reponse.
