One thing still remains true:  it is much easier to design a 
high quality telephoto zoom than it is a wide angle zoom.
That's what makes the 35-70mm f2.8 R special to me; I would 
have liked to try it.

I didn't quite believe the assertions about the performance 
of the 70-180 f2.8 Apo Vario Elmarit;  I had a chance to use it
and now I am a believer.  A zoom lens that is as good as, and
sometimes even better than, the best primes.  Speaking optically,
of course; in terms of weight, heft and price, well, there is no 
equal among the primes with the zoom range either :-)
