I think that the solution is in a better knowledge of light control practice
during the shooting itself. Even a 1/4 stop difference can significantly
separate the subject from the background.
I recently saw in a catalogue, flat panel strobes, in both shoe mount and
studio size. I'm wondering if those would be a better way of separating the
subject from the background?
Another method of lighting would be to over-light the background by a stop
or more, placing those values in a high key, while leaving the front
subjects in the midrange. The over-lighting usually bleeds over creating an
interesting effect, but with predictability, if one has to repeat it.
With Digital's heightened sensitivity, one wouldn't need more than a small
unit, something along the lines of a Vivitrash 285, or a 200B Norman, etc.
