Kit,

I missed Charlie last night. I agree with you about Carter, he is a true and rare political scholar who devoted himself to the most difficult problems facing the world. He never had a chance as president nor would he today, or in any other time I can think of. He would have made a good founding father though. And he is one of the few Presidents not charged with any war crimes. Something to be proud of these days.

Chris--

Ain't it so? Violence is the most barbaric and unfortunately, compulsive,
response to a problem imaginable (rarely is it a solution), and then, of
course, it creates a world of problems exponentially more difficult to solve
as the violence continues.

Did anyone see Jimmy Carter on Charlie Rose last night? (This is one of the
only programs I watch, I have to confess, so I'm always asking people, "Hey
did you see ...?"). Here is one person who has actually taken the time to
develop viable and considered processes for solving problems. But of course,
really solving problems is antithetical to what our leaders want to do.
There is much more profit in conflict and control.
