Let's be honest here...if the only thing photographic discussed was Leica equipment and unique aspects of its use, this list would be down to two people in about a week. First off, there is virtually nothing about Leica equipment that hasn't been discussed here as extensively as Tilley hats - - one doesn't need to spend time on the list to get equipment questions answered; all one has to do is go to the archives. And as to the "unique" aspects of photography with Leicas - such as? Come on - an EOS (film) Rebel is just as quiet as an M; there are other rangefinder cameras; there's nothing "unique" about photographing with Rs, so we come back to equipment. What this list really is is an international community of people who seem to have at least two things in common - we all use and are perhaps a bit irrationally attached to Leica equipment of one sort of another; and we are all interested in photography, to one extent or another. For those of us who are interested in photography, the onslaught of digital is a major topic - and who better to discuss it with than those we Leica..? Hats? Scotch? Pens? Custom made bicycles? Take that trash talk to list for hat-wearing, drunk, bikeriders with inkstained shirts!:-) B. B.D., I don't think Leica-related talk is getting to be rarer and rarer -- at least in recent years it has always been the LUG and photo.net (and its precursors). The problem with the second part of your post is that this isn't a general purpose photography list. It is one thing for completely off-topic threads such as those about Tilly hats and single malts to meander for a few days, and quite another for people to treat a Leica list as a place to debate anything and everything photographic regardless of the topic's relevance to things Leica. Since digital is the latest thing, that is what dominates at the moment, and has for weeks and weeks. This will cause (and arguably already has caused) the LUG to completely lose its focus and become a non-resource rather than the valuable one that it has been over the years. Just to be clear, I have nothing against digital per se. When the Leica digital back for the R8/R9 arrives, I expect it to be discussed here on the LUG -- probably ad nauseum. :-).
