Subject: RE: [Leica] Is digital photography necrophilia?

The reality, Rolfe, is that other than here and on photo-net,
Leica-related talk is getting to be rarer and rarer. I'd point out, if I
may, that those of us discussing digital more and more are people who
have shot with Leicas, and very often still do shoot with Leicas, but
have also embraced a new reality, and that reality is now part of our
photographic lives. You say you had no problem tolerating Tilly hats,
single malts, etc....and motorcycles, and cars, and pens, and hi-fi
equipment. Then what's the problem with tolerating discussion of digital
photography? It's at least relevant to a photography list, while all
those other topics, which at times have completely dominated the list
for days at a time, are utterly and complete irrelevant.

Yes, this goes without saying.

The problem is that the S/N ratio has gotten so out of control on the
LUG that it is defeating its original purpose. I'm willing to exercise
the delete key liberally, and have never commented negatively when
discussions stray into single malt scotches or Tilly hats. But when the
bulk of the traffic is increasingly made up of non-Leica photography
chatter (i.e. digital) then I think the participants need to exercise a
little more self-discipline about where to take those conversations. I
don't see why it should be me that leaves to find Leica-related talk
rather than the non-Leica talkers.
