Karen,

This first message has a ring of legitimacy to it, but I probably wouldn't
pursue it. I haven't done much ebay stuff, but I don't see anything too
unusual for someone going directly to am unsuccessful bidder to make a deal.
However, unless I knew for certain the guy was on the up and up, I would
pass.

The second message sounds like a scam though. Selling a lens to donate to
charity? Like you said, yeah right!
