Mine is the most used of my nine Nikon SLR with any Nikon lens and I've shot many, many slides without any problem. In fact the first matrix system has not changed too much along the time up to the F5, a monster of metering! I do not find many differences in my Leica R8 and my Nikon FA concerning metering. Every serious amateur knows which light conditions are tricky and switches immediately to manual. In fact the M7 is excellent metering without any kind of matrix. May be you got a wrong FA?
