Ernie,

Most of the clients of MedStar, the biggest medical TV spot producing 
company, are hospitals who want to raise their national profile. They regularly 
delegate their senior staff members and department heads to appear in the canned 
spots. The spots are aired in dozens of communities outside of the local region. 
The publicity is considered worthwhile, else why would they pay big bucks for 
it.

Not justifying the procedure, just explaining it.
