More seriously, for sure, if leica doesn't want to devellop this, it will be difficult, for another problem is that any ccd has to be triggered too, twice in fact. First to begin to accumulate electrons in the photosites, second to begin to dump this info out of the ccd, treat it informatically (mirror-redress the info if it is dumped from two corners, or from four corners, then color-intensity corrected, then RGB assembled, and stocked in raw format, tiff or bmp, and or compressed to jpeg). So, nothing can work if the body is not slightly adapted to have this info given to the back. for this purpose, I imagined a rather simple electrical circuit, normally closed when nothing has to appen. In this circuit, two tiny switches, maybe placed on the two rolls of curtains. the circuit could be opened instantly at the begining of the first curtain, and at the begining of second curtain. The digital back logic would have so the info of opening, and the info of ending of exposure (having in mind the real end of the exposure is 1/45s later than the beginning of the travel of the second curtain, but this is electronically easy to do). The real problem I currently face is the dimension of the ccd glass protection, and how to nest the ccd in place of the film. We have the film guide to have the ccd well aligned, but there is practically no place between the ccd and the metal frame of the body. I wonder if a ccd can be exposed directly, without any protective plate before it. any engineer advice welcome. I just read someone talking about the "huge amount of electronic" needed for a digital camera. Have you seen the Canon Ixus 400, not so heavy, and there are a lot of function not needed in this one, let's say motors for the optic, place for retractable optic and so on. I'm rather confident everything could be put in a case not bigger than a leicavit, firewire, usb ports, slots for sony sd card (promising 1Gb of memory for next year), batteries and so on. don't forget that I try simply to think if it would be technically possible to have this, I don't try to aggress people fond of film and technical. I would be pleased not to be aggressed in return, but maybe the lug is not the place to discuss digital leica m back, but it would be sad.
