Hi Ted.

There was someone else there.  My uncle was present.  But he was a good 
40 degrees (from her point of view) from where I was sitting.  I didn't 
want to shift anything in the room including people because my main 
point was to get a photograph of her without making her feel that this 
was in any way a formal thing.  She was very conscious of her unkempt 
appearance relative to how she was before her stroke and I wasn't at 
all sure that she would like to be photographed.  My main concern, 
vastly over and above any concern about photography, as the feelings of 
my aunt.

I do understand the point you are raising, however.  And in fact I have 
used Karsh's cable release technique on occasions with a tripod-mounted 
Hasselblad.  But in this case, I still like the eye contact.
